Biennales

Literally means - "Every Other Year" Like it's American translation biennials.

Biennales generally describe the gathering of international
contemporary artists, in a designated location,
where they are able to exhibit their work.

There goal is to present cutting edge artwork and
where art is going in the future.

Venice Biennale

Founded in 1895
The oldest and most prestigious Biennale

They feature the "Venice Film Festival", the "Venice Biennale of Architecture",
and the "International Festival of Contemporary Dance"

According to LaBiennale.org "their goal is to highlight
the fundamental importance of certain
key artists for their creativity of future generations".

Their first international festival of performance will be in May of 2010

Founded in 1951
2nd Oldest Biennale
Located in Brazil

Goal: is to make contemporary art (primarily for the USA and Western Europe) known in Brazil and to gain the country access to art space and to become an international art center.

Architecture and Design as well as Art.
